We
were first introduced to these captivating animals while traveling in
South America in February 2006. Upon return to our maple and apple farm,
in the Monteregie region of Quebec, the search began for our own alpacas.
Two of our single registered 'girls'
arrived in December 2006 from Scorry Breck Alpaca and four more arrived
early in 2007 from Riverbend Alpacas. They were later joined by a dual
registered female and, to the delight of them all, the dual registered
'macho male' of their dreams arrived from Evergreen Acres in Calgary.
Othello II is son of the great herdsire Peruvian Javier, and a Paracuti
great grandson. He was chosen for his correct conformation, dense fleece,
gentle personality, and solid good looks. Our first cria, born on the
farm, is an offspring of Othello II, and she does him proud.
We are daily amazed at the unique
personalities, intelligence, inquisitive nature and gentleness of these
animals. We have enjoyed sharing the therapeutic effect that alpacas have
on humans young and old alike. We have had visits from residents of
nursing homes who were delighted by the experience of feeding them from
their hands, and leading them.
We attend as many teaching seminars,
symposiums and alpaca shows as the busyness of our farm allows. Being
members of alpaca associations and organizations helps to keep us up to
date with the alpaca world, and are great sources of information.
Our plans are to pursue breeding for
desirable qualities and as a result the animals will sell themselves. We
encourage other people to enjoy the delightful alpaca lifestyle. Visits to
our farm, in the beautiful Chateauguay Valley, are most welcome upon
appointment. You can contact us anytime by e-mail at pednie@rocler.com
